I think you should just go. What's the worst that could happen?
Go, make an effort, talk to the girls you don't fancy (that's easier, right?), smile. Half the girls there feel like you do, just act like everything's cool. Have a beer...pace it.
If you haven't shared any words with anyone by the time you've finished your beer, you get to leave. If you have, you stay for another beer.
This is actually what I did once. I ended up drinking 4 beers and made a "friend".
Going alone is horrible, but it's that or sitting at home. Let's make a deal, if you go tomorrow, I will go to the next event in my town.
It's not just you. I know a few of us that feel that we're "not worthy"...myself included. That's the reason why I couldn't speak to this one woman. We BOTH have that problem. Talk about doomed.
